Leena Tuonen was given form by a prehistoric humanity’s collective consciousness- their fears of death were molded into a psychopomp who would guide them away from life into the great beyond- whatever that is. Leena acts both out of self-preservation and out of the belief she knows best for humanity; she attempts to maintain the balance between order and entropy in a universe where near boundless energy hides within all living things. That isn’t to say that Leena is solely driven by these goals. She still holds many irrational, very human beliefs and interests despite her supernatural origin. She has spent tens of thousands of years blending in, even if she has always been noted as “eccentric” compared to her peers. Around the early 1500s, Leena encountered a noblewoman in her travels which history has all but forgotten- her lineage cannot be traced backward from that point. Known only as Lady Tavish, her and Leena became inseparable from that point up until Tavish’s death around 40 years later. Leena had known that day would come from the very moment she met the Lady; but she didn’t know of the guilt she would feel guiding her down the path toward the light. From there, she would continue adapting with the times- keeping tabs on war, famine, disease, doing her best to steer such events in her favor. Her approach changed in the late 20th century, however, becoming far more hands-on as she saw the balance of power in much of the world shift away from world governments to and towards multinational corporations. She built up a vast fortune working in the insurance industry, jumping from company to company making massive shifts in policy; all of which were interpreted merely as cutthroat moves by a shrewd businesswoman. It was during this time she met Saitō Yoshimichi at a German hospital she was touring. She immediately sensed something unusual about him as she walked by his room in the intensive care unit- the sheer vitality that radiated from him was unheard of for any human, let alone one of his advanced age. She ended up hiring him for her security detail so that she could keep him within arm’s reach for study. With the turn of the millennium, Leena could sense yet another shift. She watched as lifespans continued to grow with every advancement, and she knew her goals would be unsustainable if that continued much longer. Taking notes from a company she had prior dealings with, Conduit Performance Bionics, Leena would use the fortune she amassed to enter the medical device industry under the name Tavish Augmetitech. In the last six and a half centuries, she broke the cycle of discarding her identity and starting anew, and instead began using her new company and its technology as a smokescreen for her extended life. Tavish Augmetitech is a manifestation of her belief system- she believes that if she can both control the technology that threatens her dominion, and convince humanity to sever more and more of their connection to their souls and Underspace, her continued existence will be ensured and the cycle of life will continue.
